With the Art Deco style becoming popular throughout the world, many carpets were produced in different countries, though most followed after the originals from Europe. China with a vast population was able to meet the demand from the Western markets, particularly America.

The Chinese Art Deco carpets are generally of floral designs with lively colours and were made as commercial products, no interest to us. The present carpet is rare as for the large size and the unusual colouring, both these points would indicate a special commission.
